Interesul fanilor asupra variantei incipiente a fost starnit de un filmulet postat ca teaser pentru un material mai amplu, in care Eminem dezvaluie povestea acestui hit, care va aparea curand. Rapperul povesteste ca nici macar nu isi amintea despre aceasta varianta, scoasa de la naftalina de Dr. Dre: "A existat o alta varianta a piesei pe care nici nu-mi amintesc cand am inregistrat-o, nu imi amintesc unde ma aflam, nimic din primul vers. Si cand m-a sunat intr-o zi si mi-a zis, am zis: "Ce?"".
"Lose Yourself" este cea mai de succes piesa din cariera lui Eminem, fiind #1 in 24 de tari si stationand 12 saptamani pe prima pozitie a Billboard Hot 100. Piesa a castigat Best Original Song la premiile Oscar si a fost prima piesa rap din istorie nominalizata la Song of The Year in cadrul premiilor Grammy. Numai in SUA, single-ul s-a vandut in peste 6 milioane de exemplare.
